Travel More, Spend Less

Hello! We are Katelyn and Wyatt, a couple in our 20’s from Boise, Idaho, USA.

Travel is our true passion, and we’ve forsaken the “normal” 9-5 life for one of adventure and exploration.

We’ve been to over 30 countries on 6 continents.

How Do We Do It?

First of all, Katelyn works customer service for an airline. This means we get extremely discounted flights. The catch is that we have to fly “standby.”

We put our names on a list and wait at the gate. If there are seats left over by the time the flight is ready to depart, we get to fly.

Katelyn’s job is just one of many secrets we’ve discovered for traveling cheaply.

Mission Statement

“To inspire every person to travel the world, and teach them how to do so affordably.”

Our Goals

One of the most common questions we get as young globetrotters is, “How can you afford to travel so much?” To which we reply, “How can you afford not to?”

Through our blog and social media, we’ll share our tips, tricks, and secrets for traveling affordably. We’ll teach you the budget travel hacks we’ve learned from over 30 trips around the world!

What Makes Us Different

Reading through the top travel blogs, we notice that they miss many points on how to travel cheaply. We want to teach everyone how to travel, starting with showing you that it is truly affordable!

Because neither of us have a regular, full-time job, budget travel is immensely important. While the flight benefits Katelyn receives from working at the airport definitely help, we also rely on cheap destinations, attractions, and accommodations.

We almost always do everything we want to do in a country, without breaking the bank. One reason we’re able to do this is that we’re willing to rough it out to save some money! Sleeping in Panama for a week on $1 hammocks instead of $3 beds? You know where to find us!

We will teach you how to travel on a budget, and tell our stories along the way.

At Bottom Dollar Backpackers, we’re here to keep it real. We really are budget travelers ourselves.

Our gear recommendations are more likely to be the $30 backpack from WalMart, rather than the $300 Osprey bag with similar specs.

We’re not professional photographers, and most of our pictures were taken on our phones or an out-dated GoPro.

We won’t edit the color of the water, just to push you to buy a tour we link to.

We’ll tell you straight-up that the water was a murky gray. It was miserably hot and humid. The sand flies were awful. It rained, and we drank too much beer… and we LOVED it!

We believe that traveling is achievable for everyone, regardless of income or occupation. Let us help you make your travel dreams come true!
